St. Patrick's Day Party Invitations

St. Patrick's Day is a great day for the Irish and a day I look forward to year after year. My favorite childhood St. Patrick's Day memory is going to the parade with my mother and brothers. We would watch the parade until we saw my Aunt Sarah march by with the Hibernian Society. We would wave like crazy and she would do the same.

My Dad was a really good cook and had the honor of making the Corned Beef dinner while we were all at the parade. Nowadays, a special treat with the Corned beef dinner is my sister in law, Kathleen's Irish soda bread. By the way, we still go to the parade and wave, even though Aunt Sarah is no longer there, because it's a tradition and nothing beats tradition.

My sister in law Kathleen gave me the following Irish soda bread recipe and my kids absolutely love it:

Irish Soda Bread recipe

21/2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 stick butter
1 egg
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup floured raisins(sprinkle flour on raisins)

Mix 1/2 stick of chilled butter to dry ingredients, then add wet ingredients. Shape into a loaf
Place in preheated 350 degree oven for 50 minutes

Another fun Irish tradition is Irish Step dancing, my daughter Kelly loved it as a child and won quite a few trophies. Although, I took classes when I was young, I never did win a trophy. But that didn't matter, my persuasive Irish mother, convinced the judges (in the one and only competition I entered) that I should at least receive a certificate of merit for having the courage to get up there without my dance partner. After all, at least I showed up. I also have fond memories of my younger daughter, Lauren mimicking her big sister, Kelly when she was a year and a half old, it was so cute, as soon as the music started she would start her version of the Irish jig.
Nowadays, my two beautiful little nieces, Katie and Ryan take Irish step dancing classes and word has it that they are both really good at it. I can't wait to see for myself. Katie is a first grader and is very serious about learning every step perfectly. Her younger sister, Ryan, the social butterfly is a little less serious, but I am sure in time that will change. They are really sweet little girls and I am so happy that they are continuing the tradition because there's nothing like tradition.

Baby Showers -Planning the perfect Baby Shower

Babies could very well survive the first year of life with the bare basics. The bare basics of course meaning:love, food, shelter, and clothing. A well organized baby shower planner knows it will take a whole lot more than that to guarantee an easy transition into toddler-hood. It will take one carefully planned step at a time.

The first thing on the "to do list" is to speak to (new moms on the block) and find out what new products are out there. Baby products are updated often and what was in yesterday, is out today, and is nothing but a recollection tomorrow. Ask the new moms what present they received that made a real difference, took out the guesswork, or made things a little easier. Word of mouth is often the best advertisement out there. Listening to the consumer directly takes out the guesswork from the false claims advertisers make.

Another great idea is to take a stroll in the baby furniture department at local shops and see what kind of nursery furniture is popular today. It might also be a good idea to invite the Mom-to-Be (by accident of course) to take a look with you. What kind of style does she prefer,white lacquer or wood grain? One great question for the Mom to Be might be, "How large is the nursery? Is she looking for a truckload of furniture or just the basics, a crib and changing table for the time being.

Whether that means chipping in a sum of money, cooking a favorite dish or sending out invitations to family and friends. The baby shower planner will arrange whatever is needed to get the job done by arranging various duties for each of her fellow party enthusiasts.The group will get together and decide on a menu and drinks and shopping will be done based on their decisions when the time is right.

My name is Liz Rooney and I am the owner and creator of Myheartspoken.com. I launched this website in April 2007 and it has been a real learning experience, an actual step by step process, which I must admit I have enjoyed tremendously even with its ups and downs.

The best part for me is when the creative juices begin to flow and the ideas keep coming and coming. I'm not kidding I have over 28o invitations and almost as many candy wrappers. I do love writing poems and being able to match a poem with an invitation and candy wrapper to form a party theme that's fun and creative is just so terrific.
